Discussion meeting! W4 Q7 from GLOBAL FOOD SYSTEMS coursera
Monday, July 29th, 6:30pm
Parc LaFontaine
Let's meet in the park and maybe bring along some food to share...minimally-packaged, of course!
I'll be on the east side of the bridge, with a pink umbrella.
From the coursera site for this course https://class.coursera.org/globalfoodsystems-001 ...I'm thinking we can all do the readings BEFOREhand, and maybe choose our potluck dish as the 'meal' of our forum activity?
Question 7: How do we prepare our food?
We do all sorts of things to our food to prepare it for consumption – wash it, cook it, and combine it in different ways. Just think of all the cookbooks that have been published, not to mention all the recipes that have been passed from generation to generation or from friend to friend by word of mouth, on index cards, or in social media postings.
This week we'll explore how food preparation relates to sustainability by examining it within the context of the food supply chain. We'll do this by introducing life cycle thinking whereby we consider not only the act of preparing food in our kitchens, but also its broader impacts. We'll take a case study approach in which we look specifically at food waste, a great deal of which can occur during preparation.

Urgent: letter writing night for the Awan family
Tuesday 6:00pm
Café Artère
Please join us for an urgent letter writing night to support Mme. Awan, who is facing imminent deportation.
The Awan family arrived from Lahore in 2011, where they were targeted by extremist and criminal gangs related to the Sipah E Sahaba, an anti-Shia group banned in Pakistan.
Mme. Awan was recently refused at the Federal Court and now has no legal recourse protecting her from deportation. Last week she was nearly arrested by CBSA agents at the Montreal General hospital after suffering a heart attack. Mme. Awan was spared only temporarily from removal due to a large number of doctors who have attested that her health would be unduly compromised. However, deportation remains imminent and her health continues to suffer.
We invite you to join us for an urgent evening of letter-writing, to condemn this situation and ask the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Chris Alexander, to grant Mme. Awan permanent residency and to stop all removal procedures against her.
If you would like a letter template or would like to send a letter on your own, please write to solidaritesansfrontieres@gmail.com.
Interfaith Forum + Sacred Activism Summer Meditation - Outdoors
Thursday, August 1st, 6:00pm until 7:00pm
Canal Lachine @ Atwater Market
Our next event of the summer will be an outdoor meditation. Bring a blanket or cushion (we'll have some too) or sit on the grass. This will be a silent group meditation consistent with themes of mindfulness, and unity.
We'll meet at the enterance to the Lachine Canal (the bridge), by Atwater Market, closest to Lionel Groulx metro station. We'll then walk together to find a fitting place to meditate.
This meditation will be unique as the Lachine Canal provides green space in the heart of a major industrial zone, and can present interesting and different methods of meditation to embrace your surroundings.

This summer the Interfaith Forum (iF?) at McGill University will be teaming up with Sacred Activism to put on various events exploring the sacred and the political. We'll have an event every week: meditation from diverse traditions will be every two weeks with a workshop on a range of topics in between. We're brimming with ideas we're excited about. We hope you're excited too. Please feel free to invite your friends.
All our events are free.

Cinquième Salle, 175, rue Ste-Catherine Ouest
The Fantasia International Film Festival and Title 66 Productions present The History of The Devil this August in Montreal at Cinquieme Salle!
The History of the Devil tells the tale of the Devil's trial at the hands of the human race, with whom he's shared the world for millennia. If he can prove that humanity is indeed culpable for many of his alleged crimes, he may return to paradise forever. In a theatrical eruption of darkness, philosophy, and humor, 8 actors play 34 characters and travel through time to tell the Devil's story. The History of the Devil exposes Lucifer as a fallen angel so like ourselves. Does the Devil deserve paradise? Do any of us?
