Garlic chives and Hen and chicks.

I`ve been on vacation in Ontario for a few weeks, so I haven`t been updating much, but I wanted to go back in time and give an update for my 2013 Urban Homestead Exchange program.
June had two volunteers, Jason from Brooklyn, New York, and June Etta from St. Catharines, Ontario.

Jason came in early June, and we worked on a lot of projects, mainly related to final preparations for the beginning of the season, like filling the final planters, general plant care tasks, sprouting and microgreens, sowing clovers to replace grass/weed lawn and so much more.
Here he is below in action!

The next volunteer was a dear friend of mine from St. Catharines in Ontario who used to work as a midwife for about 10 years in Montreal. Now she is retired and spends her time relaxing and making art - with a specialty on paper crafts and colour dyeing.
She helped out with some plant tips, like mounding the soil around the base of a plant to help sturdy it and cover the roots. She repaired the weak spots in the fences and straightened the floppy poles.
One of the best moments was spending an afternoon repairing clothing, while she added a new panel to a swap-scored skirt, and I made a pair of faux-leather wings, as we spoke about life and love.

Here is an example of her arwork
Here are some pics of what the garden looked like in early and mid June!
