Screening: Cinema Politica McGill presents: Liberty, Equality, Accommodation
Tuesday, February 5th, 6:00pm
Leacock 15, 855 Sherbrooke West
This week we're very excited to present a very special film. "Liberty, Equality, Accommodation" follows the question of 'reasonable accommodation' which took Quebec by storm in February 2007 with the publication of a pamphlet telling immigrants that in Canada, " women were not to be excised, stoned or burned alive." The subsequent Bouchard-Taylor Commission forced Quebec to look long and hard at its policies about immigrants and what it means to be different.
We're very pleased to have two very special guests as well, the film's director, Stefan Nitoslawski, and Professor Norman Cornett. Professor Cornett you may remember came and spoke at our screening last year of the documentary in which he stars (details found here: www.cinemapolitica.org/film/professor-norman-cornett-when-do-we-divorce-right-answer-honest-answer" ) There will be snacks provided.

Theatre: TNC Presents "Hosanna"
Wednesday, February 6 at 8:00pm until February 16 at 11:00pmTuesday Night Cafe Theatre, 3485 McTavish Street
"Who cares what you look like, it's what you feel that counts..."
Hosanna is a drag queen from another era, long before Gender Identity Disorder was removed from the DSM (oh wait...), unsure about her queerness, her place in the demi-monde of Montreal, and the roles she must play with her husband Cuirette. Hosanna's story is that of an individual in a constant state of self-fashioning, fluctuating between poles of existence in an attempt to land on the naked truth of who they "really" are. But it's a love story too, and follows, over the course of a single fateful Halloween evening in 1973, two queers who seem to have the immense power to inspire change in each other.

Manifestation: Demonstrate against the Plan Nord
Friday, February 8, 12:00pm       Square Victoria
Coinciding with the: Forum on Natural Resources at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal*
Last April, the capitalists of the Montreal Chamber of Commerce organized a grand exhibition of the destruction of northern territories, the Forum on the Plan Nord. Rather untastefully, they are re-doing it this year, under the slogan "rediscover the Forum on Natural Resources". The pillagers are gathering. Sponsored largely by mining (Osisko) and tar sands (Enbridge), the profiteers are preparing the assimilation of indigenous communities into their industrial framework, and into their large-scale destruction of the wild.We act in solidarity with all communities resisting this development model that is imposed on them, in the North as in the South, and with the indigenous defenders in opposition, from the Innu of Nitassinan, to Cree dissidents, and those from all other nations. Alongside them, and in defense of the earth, we will be in the street to disrupt their forum on February 8th!
