La Belle Epoque - Library Launch + Fundraiser
Friday, December 21, 9:00pm
703 rue bourgeoys
$5 PWYC
For the past while people have been working on creating a library at La Belle Epoque. On December 21, it will start functioning! There are currently a couple hundred books, a couple hundred journals and a couple hundred zines. The books can be taken out, the journals can be read in the space and the zines can be taken (Either PWYC or free).
The reason this is a fundraiser- in addition to a launch party- is simple. There is an incredible amount of books that would be really great to have available at the library that we don’t have! Right now, the library is made up of books that people are lending or have donated to it. That means that there is a lot of important stuff that isn’t there. Hence a fundraiser. Also, it’s not in the title, but if you have books you would like to lend or donate to the space, that’d be sweet!
This project is meant to strengthen and help build individual and collective knowledge and analysis as bases for organization and action. That can happen both when one person reads a text and when reading becomes a collective affair. When folks engage with something, disagree with it, talk about it, hate it, love it and act on it, a work takes on a whole other character.
Libraries can be pretty daunting though. So, every month a reading list will be put out. It will have 5 books, 4 journals and 5 zines. This is the first list:
Zines:
-Desert
-Solidarity Trip to Chile, Bolivia, and Walmapu: to sharpen the struggles
for our collective liberation, cachai?
-Apres avoir tout brule…/After We Have Burnt Everything: Correspondences
about revolutionary strategy and emotions
-The Anarchist Tension
-Race Treason behind Prison Walls
Journals:
- 325 #10 (Anarchy/Anti-prison)
- Inflammable #2 [Fr/Eng] (Montréal anarchist journal)
- À corps perdu #3 (International anarchist review)
- Pvron Fvu - Volume 1, October 2012 (Mapuche indigenous struggle)
Books:
The George Jackson Brigade (History)
Communization and Its Discontents, ed. Benjamin Noys (Theory)
Fukushima Paradise: pour une critique radicale du nucléaire (2005-11)
(Topic analysis)
The Voltarine de Cleyre Reader (Person)
Lonely Hearts Killer (Fiction)

So what IS CoOp sur Genereux?!
We're 12 people and two cats living in a big beautiful space on the corner of Mont Royal and Papineau. It's been this way since 2003 with tons of new people in between!
This is our home, but it's also a space with a political open-doors policy for those interested in sharing and exchanging. We host a series of events including theatre workshops, films, jam sessions, conferences, yoga courses, concerts and we're most open to many more ideas too! In summary, a joyous mix of events that we hope to continue!

DEPOSE HARPER
Sunday, December 23, 4:00pm until 11:30pm
ALL OVER CANADA
Harper's Government has become a beast that no longer reflects the views of the majority of Canadians. With the creation of the cruel crime bill that ignores so much research, and pulling our nation out of the Kyoto protocol, it appears the "Harper" government might have actually gone mad so far has the disparity grown between the wishes of the constituents, and those in power.
How many signatures does it take to depose a prime minister gone mad?
Let's all call our mp's and find out, shall we? Those of you from out of province, call home!
Let's voice our deep and and ever widening displeasure with Harper's conservative lunacy before he takes away our right to have abortions, to have gay marriages, or to be gay, period.
