Monday, November 26th, 5:00pm

A historical and strategic assessment of the black bloc tactic, with a mind to clearing up misconceptions, reducing harm (by adequately explaining how to participate in a black bloc and how not to), and sparking a broader dialogue in the revolutionary anti-capitalist movement about the usefulness of not just black blocs, but street fighting, property destruction, anonymity, uniformity, propaganda of the deed, and other themes.

THE LIGHT BULB CONSPIRACY & E-WASTELAND - Quebec premieres
Monday, November 26th, 7:00pm until 9:00pm
Concordia University, Room H110

Two potent films that follow the structured system of planned obsolescence from frenzied purchases in the West, to toxic trash heaps in Africa. This screening is co-presented with R4 Concordia's Zero Waste Campaign.
THE LIGHT BULB CONSPIRACY
Once upon a time..... products were made to last. Then, at the beginning of the 1920s, a group of businessmen were struck by the following insight: 'A product that refuses to wear out is a tragedy of business' (1928). Thus Planned Obsolescence was born.
E-WASTELAND
e-wasteland is set entirely at the Agbogbloshie slum in Accra, the capital of Ghana. Situated on the banks of the highly polluted Korle Lagoon, Agbogbloshie is home to over 30,000 settlers, mainly from the poorer Northern regions of Ghana. It is also home to the largest e-waste dump site in Africa. Generally uneducated and with few employable skills, many of the settlers at Agbogbloshie are forced to make a small living salvaging and recycling e-waste.

Conversation: Considering the Co-op
Tuesday, November 27th, 7:00pm until 9:00pm
ECTO - espace coopératif de travail, 880 rue roy est

The United Nations has declared 2012 to be the International year of Cooperatives with the goal of raising public awareness of the role that co-ops play in poverty reduction, employment generation and social integration. In Canada, co-ops have evolved significantly from their rural roots in the farming and fishing industries, and can now be found cropping up in all kinds of urban settings. Right here in Montreal, new and varied breeds of cooperatives – from food buying groups, to housing communities, to artist-run initiatives – are flourishing and providing opportunities for more engaged consumption and production. What unique characteristics have led to the growing popularity of co-ops? Should we, as a society, be considering the co-op model as a more viable model for conducting business? In this public conversation we will reflect on the role co-ops play in the face of our changing social and economic realities and consider what contributions they make to Montreal’s urban landscape.

ÔFACK
Satuday, December 1 at 9:00pm until December 2 at 6:00pm
Rats9 - Belgo Bldg. 372 Ste-Catherine West, suite #530

ÔFACK is a night of the performance, video, drawing and sound of the accident that cannot be cheerily redeemed.
The greasy smudge is not coming out. ÔFACK.
Regret lingers in your tight chest when you think back to that night. ÖFACK.
That persistent feeling: I'm wasting resources. ÔFACK.
Some have advocated embracing failure as a strategy in resisting dominant society's impositions in our impoverished, faggy lives. But we’re talking about a deeper fuckup - the fuckup on your own terms. When your shit misses the mark of your own standards of success, truth and goodness what do you do? You revel in it. You dance in it and bathe in it and you smear it all over the place.
doors 9PM, $2 Show also open the next day noon-6 on sunday the 2nd of Dec.

Mange - Vernissage
Saturday, December 1,   6:00pm until 9:00pm
Coop Café TOUSKI, 2361, Rue Ontario Est

Art ate itself and got sick. Expressed as vandalism, remixed plagiarism and live action masturbation; we've exchanged meaning and beauty for a large quantity of chrome. Art itself isn't so precious except as a measure of who we are. If you sit still you'll notice our tribe repeatedly eating itself and getting sick. Mange is my formal and public protest, a critique in the form of elaborately stupid wooden machines that do nothing but eat themselves. Impressing and delighting ten year old children will be my crown, but everyone will be welcomed.
